A renewed spirit for golfing seniors

DivnickGolf’s first-of-their-kind high loft, low spin clubs have invigorated players 50 and older with enhanced passion for the game by improving swing speed, trajectory and distance

Dayton, Ohio (March 2, 2004) - A golf enthusiast since he first picked up a club at the age of 15, Mike Rose still plays four days a week. Now 60, the General Motors retiree hasn’t lost passion for the game, though his swing is shorter and his body is less flexible. Rose’s love for golf is even stronger now that he is using high loft, low spin drivers and clubs which compensate for the slower swing speeds and decreased flexibility that impact many players 50 and older.

Specifically created for average golfers, who often struggle to get trajectory on their tee shots, DivnickGolf’s Big Dick and Big Jane drivers, and Little Dick and Little Jane fairway woods, (now called BIG STIK and Little Stik) have captured the golf industry’s attention since they introduced at the PGA Golf Show in January.

Several PGA club pros who have tested the Big Dick and Big Jane say they are “the hottest clubs on the market” and “generate more distance, better accuracy and tighter shot patterns than all the major brand name drivers.” DivnickGolf (www.divnickgolf.com) has received numerous comments from senior golfers who say that the drivers and fairway clubs have given them “a renewed spirit in the game because it is fun to play again.”

Essentially, the Big Dick and Big Jane provide the distance of a driver with "the consistency, confidence and loft" of a 3-wood. Compared to traditional drivers, which offer lofts of 9 and 10 degrees, the Big Dick boasts lofts of 11, 13 and 15 degrees while the Big Jane offers 13 and 15 degree lofts.

A fairway wood designed to help golfers hit long shots off the fairway or rough, the Little Dick and Little Jane boast the size, length and weight of a 3-wood but have the loft of a 5-wood. The 17 and 20 degree lofts set the clubs apart from those of major manufacturers.

“I’m not as flexible as I once was, so my swing is not as long as I would like it to be. I’ve lost some speed on my swing as well,” said Rose, who uses an 11-degree Big Dick driver and a 20-degree Little Dick fairway wood. “The high loft and light weight of these (Big Dick and Little Dick) clubs make them a good combination to have for seniors, women, juniors or anyone with reduced swing speed and flexibility.

“Since I started using the Big Dick and Little Dick, I’ve noticed that my swing speed is faster, my tee shots are longer and my fairway shots are higher,” Rose added. “I had trouble getting the ball into the air with my Callaway. With the Little Dick, I get loft and distance.”

In recent years, the benefits of high loft clubs for golfers who struggle to get trajectory on their shots have been mentioned in golf publications worldwide. So why haven’t brand name manufacturers introduced high loft drivers? High loft usually translated into greater distance, but increased backspin. Golf equipment manufacturers have not determined how to provide high loft and minimize backspin – until DivnickGolf introduced the Big Dick and Big Jane drivers, and the Little Dick and Little Jane fairway clubs.

Mickey Fox, who operates Blew-By-U, a launch monitor service in Texas reports, "Somehow, DivnickGolf has been able to design their titanium drivers with extra high loft and managed to keep the spin rate low. We’ve never seen anything like it.”

Most recreational golfers blame themselves for inaccurate shots and high scores. Using the drivers designed more for a professional’s swing mechanics and club head speed, they strike the ball too low off the tee. The trajectory is flat and the ball often becomes mired in tall grass instead of reaching the fairway. This leads most golfers to make attempts to lift the ball off the tee, often resulting in faulty shots.

Spurred by the success of the telescopic and adjustable clubs that he invented in the early 1990s, DivnickGolf founder and president Steve Divnick developed the technology to eliminate the backspin after listening to customers who liked the telescopic driver but wanted him to create a high-end titanium driver.

"It is the size of a driver - it has the same large sweet spot - and it is the length and weight of a driver, but it has the higher lofts," Divnick said about the Big Dick. "Many golfers drive with a 3-wood because it has higher loft and is more forgiving. I believed was logical to combine loft of a 3-wood with the other elements of a driver."

"Higher loft is easier to hit and gets better trajectory, but the laws of physics means it creates more back spin which largely defeats the benefits of the higher loft," Blew-By-U's report explains. "But DivnickGolf has engineered a design that defies those laws. The Big Dick is the most consistent driver with the tightest shot pattern in our entire inventory. We've never seen anything like it."

“It’s exciting that a company is finally making drivers with high-loft, low-spin technology. It’s long overdue,” said Dick Johnson, a PGA pro who provides instruction at three courses in Wisconsin and replaced his Titleist with the 13-degree Big Dick. “But what is even more remarkable is how it improves so many elements of your tee shots.

“When you are confident that you will get high loft on your drives, and hit them straight, you tend to relax more when you’re at the tee,” Johnson added. “And when you’re relaxed, you generally make fewer mistakes and enjoy the game more.”

DivnickGolf is focusing its marketing strategy on holding “Demo Days” at local courses where people can hit the Big Dick and Big Jane to experience how much easier it is to hit, and how much longer and more accurate it is compared to their current driver. Divnick says, “We are hiring average golfers to hold Demo Days in their area. It is fun and profitable. We have found that seniors make the best Reps for Demo Days because they love golf, want to make it tax-deductible, and might be a little bored after retiring.”
